Yesterday, I was asked by an overseas customer to visit a manufacturer of CNC double-column machining centers for a factory inspection.
The customer wasn’t simply interested in how big the factory was.
What he really wanted to know was:
Can this factory actually build the machine properly?
So when we arrived, we didn’t just look around the showroom.
We went straight to the production workshop.
We checked the actual assembly of the gantry machining centers,
looked at the production and assembly of key components,
checked the machines currently in production,
and reviewed the factory’s quality control process.
Because photos can look great.
Specifications can look perfect on paper.
But what really matters is the factory’s manufacturing capability and quality management.
That’s why, if you’re planning to buy a large machine tool from China, I always recommend:
Don’t look at the price alone.
If you don’t have time to come to China yourself,
at least have someone you trust inspect the factory for you.
That’s exactly what I did this time.
I went there from the buyer’s perspective
and took a serious look at the factory on my customer’s behalf.
Before you buy the machine, make sure you understand who is actually building it.
