Selling CNC Machining Centers: What Every Dealer Should Know
When selling CNC machining centers, choosing the right machine is only the first step. Before preparing a quotation, every CNC machine dealer should confirm four key points: the machine model, machine configuration, payment terms, and service requirements.
1. Confirm the Right Machine Model
Some customers already know which CNC milling machine they want, while others only know the dimensions and materials of the parts they need to manufacture. You can determine a suitable machine model based on the worktable size, 3-axis travel, and workpiece drawings or CAD files. The more detailed the customer’s requirements, the easier it is to recommend the right machine.
2. Confirm the Machine Configuration
Even the same CNC machining center can have significantly different prices depending on its configuration. Before quoting, confirm these five common items:
- CNC control system: GSK, Fanuc, Siemens, or Mitsubishi.
- Tool magazine: Umbrella type or arm type.
- Spindle speed: Such as 8,000 RPM, 10,000 RPM, or 12,000 RPM.
- Spindle oil cooling: Confirm whether it is required.
- Chip conveyor: Check whether a chain-type or screw-type conveyor is needed.
Other options may include coolant through spindle (CTS), a 4th-axis rotary table, motor enlargement, a tool setter, a workpiece measuring system, a 5th axis, customized machine color, and the brands of linear guides and ball screws.
3. Confirm Payment and Service Requirements
Before preparing a CNC machine quotation, confirm the customer’s preferred payment terms and whether installation, commissioning, or operator training is required. These requirements can affect the total project cost, especially for large machines that need to be disassembled for transportation.
4. Prepare an Accurate Quotation
Once the machine model, configuration, payment terms, and service requirements are confirmed, you can prepare a formal quotation. Clear communication at this stage helps reduce misunderstandings and ensures that the proposed machine matches the buyer’s requirements.
To make this process easier, I’ve prepared a CNC Machining Center Configuration Checklist covering the key specifications and options to confirm before purchasing. Contact me if you’d like a copy.
